Mercy and love

Remember, O LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.    Psalm 25.6

God's mercy and love have always been. They are from of old; they have existed since the very beginning. When God created all that He brought into being, He did so because He loved. Mercy accompanied His love. His ultimate creation, humanity, has let Him down on numerous occasions. Yet, in love, grace and mercy, He restores. He lifts us up when we have fallen. He supports us as we stumble. His mercy is ever toward us, and His love enfolds us in the fullness of His grace. Generation after generation is blessed in relationship with God. We are not always grateful. We would do well to remind ourselves of His great love and mercy.

The psalmist's words are interesting. He addresses himself to God: Remember, O LORD. Does God need to be reminded of His great mercy and love? I don't think so! Rather, I see the psalmist petitioning God to bring His love and mercy into play in the psalmist's present situation.

I see a reminder here for all believers. We are to remember God's mercy and love. We are to know that these qualities are long-standing and enduring. W e can call on almighty God just as the psalmist did. He is ever ready to help us - ever ready. Time is no barrier, His love is eternal. Praise the Lord!

Loving God,

I am reminded of Your constancy and Your faithfulness. I thank You.

I remember those times when I have so needed You and You have been there for me.

I take hold of the reality that You are always there for me. I thank You.       Amen.
