In that day men will look to their Maker
and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 17.7
Isaiah speaks of God’s judgment on many
nations. They have assailed and afflicted His chosen people Israel. Some
nations were chosen by Him in outworking His judgment on His rebellious people,
but they overstepped the mark and took the punishment to excess. God will not
be mocked in any way. Judgment is His.
And, in times of turmoil and distress, it
is strangely usual for the human species to turn to their maker and creator, to
cry out specifically to God. Even those who profess no declared relationship to
God through Jesus look beyond themselves to something greater – to “the man
upstairs”, or some such. In times of national and international disaster church
attendances increase. Many admit that they pray. Just who they may be praying
to is unclear, but they seem to receive some solace and consolation in seeking
out a greater being.
The secret, which is not so secret really,
is freely available to all. God is the answer, and He is available to any and
all who will call on Him in the name of Jesus. Why does it take fearful events
and frightening circumstances to wake people out of their apathy? Dear God, I
pray for revival. I ask You to bring people to an awareness and acceptance of
You before their world falls in ruins around them.
Lord
God,
I
dare to cry out to You on behalf of humanity and the whole of creation. We are
collectively the work of Your hands. I believe this truly. But You gave us
freedom of choice which we have often exercised in unwise, even foolish, ways.
I
humbly ask You to forgive us. Throughout all time and in every situation I cry
out in repentance and ask for Your forgiveness and mercy. Please, mighty Power
and gracious Friend, please lead us into a truly new day – the day of the Lord.
Bring Holy Spirit conviction on the disobedient. Bring the light of Christ to
those who are lost. Bring the whole cosmos back into line with Your perfect
plan, in Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
